Music misconception 🎤

Just got back from my “rabbit hole” of horrorcore hip hop. 👨🏾🎤
My mind is still intact, I think.
But I made it back with a few new gems.
Most notably, the new Falling in Reverse album and their song “Ronald” with one of my favorite artists, Tech N9ne.
Yes — It’s explicit, full of talk about demons and depression. Devils and destruction. Death. Dark stuff.
By all means, “horrorcore” is supposed to make you shiver.
But on a deeeeeeper dive, you experience what it’s really about.
It’s about love. It’s about healing and light.
It’s about life. Yes, it’s raw. Real. Bloody. Explicit. Just like real life.
But when you listen well, you’re reminded how we each have a journey, each are different. That we all walk a different path. That it gets better. Or it sometimes doesn’t. They scream their truth, bleeding their hearts out on the mic — to make what hurts inside their hearts and head, less.
And it goes sooooo hard!
But it’s also kind of antithetical to goth culture when you really think. Some may say it’s because it’s mainstream music, which tends to be true. Popular music today seems to be more inclusive. Historically, though, punk/alt music hasn’t been. It was fringe. And some of the best alternative music still is. It’s like underground rap.
Every once in a while, one of those dark artists steps out into the light to make life a little brighter for the someone who needs it.
It’s so easy to have a misconception about music.
While rap and rock and horror might not be your thing, I implore you to read the liner notes on this album. The message is not what it seems.
It’s benevolent, really. I think so, at least. It’s hopeful music, it’s about overcoming, healing and recovery — something we all know about.
That makes this music more accessible to me.
While I wouldn’t recommend horrorcore for everyone — it is for everyone.
Its message is meant for everyone, anyway.
👨🏾🎤…
And if anyone was wondering, Tech N9ne is still Tech N9ne.
Rap, rock or horrorcore — nobody puts techn9nine with the best, but he should be.
He’s 51.
And still relevant, still featuring on hit albums, still flossing aross multiple genres, (still explicit!), still performing like this, still tough on the mic.
